Cette version du programme Open Source Samba permet à des serveurs Unix-Linux de gérer les accès d'utilisateurs à partir de postes Windows NT 4 ou Windows 2000.
Samba permet à un serveur Unix/Linux de se comporter comme un serveur de fichiers ou d'impression Windows. Ainsi un parc de postes client sous Windows NT/2000 peut faire l'économie de licences serveurs Microsoft, et gérer directement les accès aux fichiers et aux imprimantes d'un domaine Unix /Linux. Samba gère aujourd'hui les droits d'accès des utilisateurs qui travaillent sur des postes clients Windows 2000, grâce à un émulateur de serveur d'authentification.
Voici une petite liste des services et tâches offertes par Samba :
- un serveur SMB (Server Message Block), pour fournir des services de fichier et d'impression avec Windows NT et des services de type LAN-Manager pour des clients comme Windows 95, Warp Server, SMBFS et autres.
- SMB permet à des postes client d'accéder aux services réseau d'un domaine, en utilisant les protocoles TCP/IP, Internetwork Packet Exchange et NetBEUI pour transporter les requêtes.
- un nom de serveur netBIOS (rfc 1001/1002), qui parmi d'autres choses apporte un support de navigation. Samba peut être, si vous le souhaitez, le navigateur maître de votre LAN.
Attention: Il s'agit d'une version alpha. Il est recommandé de l'installer dans un environnement test et non sur une machine de production. Faites une sauvegarde de tous vos fichiers importants avant l'installation. |

L'Edition Network d’EssentialPIM vous permet de créer facilement une solution flexible pour le réseau local pour tous les ordinateurs dans le bureau ou à la maison. Il se caractérise par des niveaux illimités d’utilisateurs, quatre niveaux de permissions, éléments publics et en lecture seule.

Parmi les particularités de EssentialPIM : cryptage Rijndael 128 bit, recherche puissante, capacités d'impression variées et prévisualisation, stockage des contacts ajustable. Il peut facilement importer ou exporter vos données d'Outlook , d'Outlook Express ou de CSV, ainsi que votre carnet d'adresses. Peut exporter en HTML, RTF et TXT entre autres. Protection par mot de passe. Rappel sonore pour les tâches.
La version professionnelle de EPIM offre quelques fonctionnalités supplémentaires :

Processus d’installation non-intrusive :
